The Florida Keys are special for a thousand reasons, and one of them is their famous dessert – the Key Lime Pie! With heavy input from our in-house dessert expert, Brianna, we have assembled our favorite Key Lime Pie spots in Key West, the birthplace of the Key Lime Pie!
Every restaurant and baker has their own take on this delicious treat – below a few that we have tried and love!
Mattheessen’s
Mattheessen’s has a unique slice of key lime pie dipped in chocolate. Be forewarned, though, this slice is VERY chocolatey. The key lime pie itself is very good, but it almost gets lost in the chocolate. If you’re a chocolate lover, however, make sure to make Mattheessen’s a stop on your next Key West adventure! They also serve good ice cream and massive cookies!
Moondog Café
Moondog Café has so much great food, and their key lime pie is no exception! With a great presentation, this is one of our favorite pies! We all love how well the meringue compliments the pie. This pie is the perfect blend of not too sweet, not too tart, and it is the perfect end to your meal at this cute restaurant!
Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Pie Shoppe
Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Pie Shoppe features a very traditional key lime pie; a bit on the limey side and tart. While this pie doesn’t have a crazy unique twist or spin, if you’re looking for a traditional key lime pie, this would be a great choice! Kermit’s pies have been featured on the Food Network, Today Show, Good Morning America, Travel Channel, and a host of other media outlets!
Off the Hook Bar & Grill
Off the Hook has a key lime pie is infused with blueberries! It’s hard to compare it to a more traditional key lime pie. This pie is not too sweet, not too tart, and very refreshing! This is a must try on your Key Lime Pie adventure!!
Blue Heaven
It’s impossible to talk about key lime pie in Key West without mentioning Blue Heaven! Their pie has songs and stories written about it! With meringue a mile high, this pie is a stand-out among key lime pies anywhere! And the vibe in Blue Heaven is pure Key West! Be sure to stop here for a Lobster Benedict and a slice of Key Lime Pie!!!
While this list is far from exhaustive, we strive to update it with each trip to the Keys. We try more pies each time we go and may eventually name our favorite! For now, when Brianna is asked which is her favorite, this is her response: “It’s a hard question — each pie is good for different reasons!”
